Charles Skinner Hallpike (Muree, India [now Pakistan], 1900 – Southampton, 1979) trained at the Ferens Institute of Otology at the Middlesex Hospital in London in the 1930s (Baloh 2000). His work included numerous lasting contributions to the field of neuro-otology ([No authors] 1979; Angell-James 1980; Baloh 2000; Whitteridge and Merton 1984).

Some of his work was with Margaret Ruth Dix, and their description of the positional test for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (Dix and Hallpike 1952a, b) became known as the Dix-Hallpike maneuver.
