Barreto and colleagues (Barreto et al. 2023) described a “universal repositioning maneuver” intended to treat all three canals on one side.
The Figure below shows the Barreto maneuver for treating all three canals on the right side.

The “universal repositioning maneuver” for treating all three canals on the right side can be described as follows:
- The patient starts in a neutral seated position.
- The patient lies sideways onto the affected (right) shoulder with the neck laterally flexed 30 – 45 degrees toward the affected (right) shoulder.
- The patient rolls the torso 180 degrees toward the unaffected (left) side, ending with lying on the unaffected (left) shoulder, and with the neck laterally flexed 30 – 45 degrees toward the unaffected (left) shoulder.
- The patient resumes an upright, neutral seated position.
